Job Description

As an RTL Design Engineer within the Design Creation and Debug Group, you will be part of a team to develop a cutting-edge FPGA IP solution created for an emerging market segment.

Within the Design Creation and Debug Group, you have many opportunities to work on the RTL underpinnings Intel PSG's System-on-Chip integration tool, Platform Designer, FPGA Debug Environment Tools such as Signal Tap and System Console and next generation FPGA-based soft processors. Your career is not limited to the starting project you are hired for right now. The goal of this team is to enable customers to implement powerful embedded hardware systems in a straightforward and enjoyable manner from design creation through debugging and performance optimization. The team is responsible for development of RTL for various IPs, including the on-chip Memory Mapped Bus Interconnect (AXI/APB/AHB/Avalon), streaming protocols IPs (AXI/Avalon), debug IP and performance monitors, soft microprocessor implementations along with supporting a full stack of tools to assemble these IPs in interesting and dynamic ways.

As an RTL Design Engineer in this position, you will need to have excellent FPGA digital design skills with expertise in Verilog/System Verilog. Some larger projects we're undertaking include:

  • Define, develop, and enhance FPGA prototyping and emulation capabilities

  • Develop debug architecture for upcoming Intel FPGA devices

  • Developing robust IPs and networks which customers use in mission critical debug environments

  • Provide newer versions of on-chip transfer protocols aimed for high speed on HyperFlex and eASIC architectures

  • Develop new interconnect topologies to maximize data transfer throughput over long distances

  • Extend support for industry standard Memory Mapped and Streaming protocols

  • Develop microprocessor and microcontroller architectures optimized for implementation on Intel FPGAs

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Self-starter and strong problem-solving skills

The RTL Design Engineer will have a direct influence on our customers and the adoption of our products, with tasks including the following:

  • Work closely with developers across Software, IP Design and Embedded Engineering to ensure we develop design flows that meet our customers' needs

  • Guide IP release content, and serve as a liaison with the support, field, marketing, and product planning organizations Research, define, and validate key customer use cases

  • Create reference RTL designs

  • Use Intel FPGA design tools like our customers to identify usability and productivity problems or missing features

Requirements listed would be obtained through a combination of industry relevant job experience, internship experiences and or schoolwork/classes/research.



  • BS degree in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering or equivalent and 6+ years of relevant industry experience

  • Experience with digital design/Fundamentals of Verification/Hardware Debug

  • Experience Verilog/System Verilog

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FPGA architecture and design methodology

  • FPGA timing and physical design constraints

  • Experienced with RTL design and debug

  • Tcl, Perl, and/or Python scripting skills

Working Model

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
