The senior director, accounting directs MidAmerican Energy Company’s accounting organization. Directs external financial reporting, analysis, ratemaking and regulatory oversight for multiple accounting functions. This position has extensive interaction with individuals both inside and outside the company. The senior director must have a broad understanding of accounting requirements and the practices employed by the company and be able to effectively communicate such information to external constituents and company management. Performs financial analysis and studies on a variety of issues. Coaches and develops employees to provide excellent service to internal customers and reliable and meaningful data to external parties.

- Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) *
Establishes and maintains accounting systems for MidAmerican Energy that comply with generally accepted accounting principles, applicable regulatory requirements, tax requirements, SEC requirements and management reporting requirements.
Develops strategic and operational plans for control, management and improvement of financial capabilities and for ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
Coordination and analysis of annual budget for MidAmerican Energy Company, including projection of revenue and sales estimates, cash flow estimates and budget model maintenance and continual monitoring of earnings projections.
Reviews and provides input into the MidAmerican Energy tax filings and all related flow through accounting matters.
Represents MidAmerican Energy on various accounting, regulatory and financial reporting committees.
Preparation of audited financial statements for various benefit plans.
Initial point of contact with regulators in conjunction with most accounting and reporting issues.
Provides technical advice and services to Berkshire Hathaway Energy and its affiliates regarding mergers and acquisitions.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Perform supervisory activities, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, employee counseling and motivation and salary administration. Assist in the administration of the department budget and reporting the work performed within the department.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business and advanced degree or certification (CPA, CMA, CFA, etc.).
Ten years of progressive related accounting/finance experience, including eight years supervisory/management responsibilities.
Excellent command of GAAP, SEC and state regulatory requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to develop and conduct presentations to varying levels in the organization.
Superior research and analytical skills with experience in quantitative analyses; experience with financial analysis methods and tools.
Leadership abilities, effective interpersonal skills and the ability to manage the work of direct and indirect reports.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
