Independence & Conflicts Network (ICN) - Senior Manager 2, with focus on Personal Matters

Deloitte's Independence & Conflicts Network (ICN) is looking for a high-performing Senior Manager 2. This role provides the chance to lead across the Deloitte businesses and with Lead Client Service Partners and engagement teams.

As a Senior Manager in our Personal Consultation team, you'll be on the cutting edge of regulatory compliance, focusing on auditor independence rules and their impacts on the professional services environment. In your consultative role, you'll work closely with Deloitte engagement teams to deliver services to our clients while complying with regulations. Work you'll do

In this role, you'll build on your existing depth of independence knowledge, and further develop your subject matter expertise in affiliate relationships, firm financial relationships, employment relationships, and other personal financial relationships, including those matters resulting in a breach of applicable rules and standards. Your role will involve leveraging skills you have developed as a seasoned senior manager (see Qualifications section below).

Your role will include

  • Working closely with Partners, Principals, Managing Directors (PPMDs) both within ICN and within Deloitte's businesses. You'll interact with leadership, such as Lead Client Service Partners, Professional Practice Directors, and other client service teams to understand and provide guidance on a variety of personal-related independence matters, such as:

  • Personal financial relationships

  • Employment relationships

  • Matters arising from firm acquisitions

  • Guidance related to PCAOB Rule 3526 communications

  • Reviewing client corporate or investment structures, investment interests and the terms of an investment to identify affiliates, as defined in the independence rules

  • Performing research and analysis, drafting conclusions and communications.

  • Developing an enhanced understanding of the intricacies of AICPA, SEC and PCAOB independence rules and Deloitte US Independence policies

  • Interpreting and implementing new and existing regulations relating to personal financial relationships and employment matters and providing guidance to audit engagement teams

  • Creating and revising training courses and materials to address rule changes and new interpretations of existing rules identified during consultations with regulators.

  • Working on special projects both independently and collaboratively with PPMDs and engagement teams, involving senior members for input as necessary

  • Coaching, leading, and mentoring team members within our Personal Consultation team and more broadly across ICN

The teamThe Personal Consultation team within the Independence & Conflicts Network (ICN) performs a critical consultation and risk-management function for Deloitte US, protecting the firm from conflicts of interest and promoting compliance to keep the firm independent, objective, and impartial, in fact and appearance, when providing services to attest/audit clients and their affiliates. Independence requirements are defined by specific sets of policies, external rules, and regulations, so maintaining independence is essential to the business and reputation of Deloitte.

  • Bachelors' degree (preferably accounting, finance, business, compliance, or legal)

  • 12+ years of related experience, ideally in independence and with a Big 4 accounting firm

  • Deep experience collaborating with multiple and various stakeholders, including skills and abilities that enable direct interaction with leaders

  • Subject matter expertise and consultative experience such that you are trusted to operate with a significant level of autonomy

  • Ability to organize and lead relationships and interactions on complex, nuanced, and more significant matters with client service teams

  • Have a breadth of experience across all aspects of personal independence (personal financial interests, employment relationships and related independence communications)

  • Lead efforts to analyze complex independence subjects and work with ICN and other teams to ensure consistent application of technical conclusions.

  • Viewed by peers as a go-to person for one or more areas, routinely sought out as an advisor by others

  • Actively involved in ongoing relationships that are impactful to and extend outside ICN

  • Comfortable digging into and considering nuances and complexities in sensitive or new areas, which may require learning "on the fly"

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with various audiences and levels of seniority across the globe

  • Positive attitude, initiative, good judgment, and dedication to quality with the ability to react positively in an environment where priorities and deadlines can quickly change and you'll work on multiple initiatives at once

  • Outstanding attention to detail along with strong technical, organizational, and analytical skills

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, including being responsive to requests from our clients

  • Proficient in the use of standard office-productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, etc.)

  • Limited immigration sponsorship may be available


  • An understanding of Independence requirements for professional auditing firms

  • Experience in regulatory compliance and/or analysis and interpretation of rules, regulations, and standards

  • Experience in public accounting

  • Knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP standards

  • Demonstrated team leadership competencies/experience

  • US CPA and/or advanced degree in related areas such as finance, accounting, business, or law

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in Colorado or Nevada, Deloitte is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the State of Colorado and the State of Nevada and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $126,535 to $186,425.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
