American Express Senior Manager, Business Development - Top Client Expansion in Des Moines, Iowa

The Senior Manager Sales/Account Development position is in the Global Commercial Services U.S. Small Medium Enterprise (SME) Top Client Expansion Field organization. It is a growing organization responsible for the expansion, development, management and retention of high potential, high spending, and high Contribution margin clients.

The Senior Manager is responsible for the overall management (growth, expansion, and retention) of a defined portfolio of high spending Clients. Managers will be measured on portfolio spend growth, expansion volume, automation volume, the retention of Clients and the retention of spend level.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving growth across portfolio of SME clients in the US Market

  • Realize pipeline opportunities, networking in-market, and owning key portfolio strategies that will yield top line growth for American Express Global Commercial Services

  • Conduct client visits regularly both in person and virtually with an emphasis on in person meetings

  • Use consultative selling/negotiation skills to identify client needs

  • Fully penetrate existing and uncover new opportunities

  • Develop a long-term strategy for each client

  • Resolve client concerns and issues through appropriate solutions

  • Partner with a sales support resource to better serve client needs

  • Analyze and digest information quickly and make critical recommendations and/or decisions

  • Prioritize efforts across portfolio of value clients and collaborate with Director and VP

  • Adhere to Blue Box Values, GCS Sales Practices and Standard Operating Procedure and American Express Leadership Behaviors

  • Be a champion of and for Compliance within US SME and GCS

Qualifications

  • Proven ability overcoming objections and delivering key messages

  • Growth mindset with the ability to embrace challenges, take risks, and learn from mistakes

  • Excellent Sales Skills, 5-7 years minimum

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Strong consultative sales skills including negotiation, influencing and collaboration skills, and a proven track record to close the sale

  • Strong verbal communication skills

  • Executive presence

  • Effective pipeline management skills

  • Ability to develop a daily, weekly, and monthly call plan

  • Relationship management skills to follow through and motivate clients to take action

  • Solid business and financial acumen, understanding of business financials, interpretation of industry, financial statement information, and ability to build a financial case

  • Ability to partner with clients across all markets/industries

  • Strong computer skills including PowerPoint and Excel, experience with SalesForce.com a plus

  • Demonstrates personal excellence

  • Hard worker with proven high-performance results

  • Strong will to win and a positive, tenacious attitude

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Strong compliance record in prior positions

  • Excellent track record from a legal and consummation of sale perspective
