Job Description

Focuses on technological solution delivery by guiding and inspiring strong coding practices and solid software design decisions among their team. Responsible for growing and mentoring engineers as it relates to technical skills and career development. Assists with cross-team strategic efforts, influencing decisions to achieve efficient delivery of business value. Understands cross-team technical roadmaps, advocating new product abilities based on technical strategy and constraints.

The ideal candidate will have strong data infrastructure, data engineering and data architecture skills, a proven track record of leading and scaling Data Engineering teams, strong operational skills to drive efficiency and speed, strong project management leadership, and a strong vision to support the changing business needs.

Data Engineering Manager Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Business Users, Product Managers, Data Scientists and Software Engineers to support solution delivery and roadmaps by building the data architecture that informs and drives insights

  • Proactively drive the vision for Data Analytics across a product vertical, and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision

  • Define the processes needed to achieve operational excellence in all areas, including project management and system reliability

  • Build a high-quality Data Engineering and Data Warehousing team and design the team to scale

  • Migrate traditional Data Warehousing platforms to Cloud, Open Source and Big Data platforms

  • Manage Data Lake, and Data Warehouses to support the business lines

  • Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production

  • Drive data quality across the product vertical and related business areas

  • Define and manage SLA’s for all data sets and processes running in production

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Six to eight years of relevant technical experience

  • Five or more years of leading a software engineering team

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in managing team of Data Engineers, Data Warehouse developers

  • Strong analytical, product management, tactical planning and leadership skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate with all parties involved in the product team (engineers, product owner, scrum master, third party vendors, customers, etc.)

  • Demonstrated management, leadership and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in working with business users - handling business requests, and managing stakeholder relationship

  • Experience with Data Warehousing, Data Lake, and Business Intelligence

  • Strong background in database systems - DB2, Oracle

  • Background in distributed systems and cloud concepts - Hadoop, Azure

  • Experience in programming languages – Python, Scala, Spark

  • Experience of IBM DataStage ETL tool is a plus

  • Experience with reporting tools such as Tableau, PowerBI is a plus

  • Strong SQL skills for data analysis and validation.

Salary range reflected is an estimate of base pay and is for the primary location. Base pay range may vary if an offer is made for work in a different location. Pay Range: $134,640.00 - $158,400.00 - $174,240.00
