Oracle Solution Center Manager | Oracle Energy and Water Consulting in Des Moines, Iowa

Job Description

This manager-level position is responsible for a segment within a given practice focused on a specific industry, service line, technology center, specialty area or region. Responsible for managing the three main pillars of a practice: people management, portfolio/delivery management and sales enablement. Has profit and loss responsibility or financial/expense management of practice.

Accountable for operational/financial metrics and overall business results of practice. Responsible for maintaining practice direction, ensuring quality of consulting delivery, and maintaining customer referenceability. Ensures that operational policies are followed and that business objectives are achieved by focusing on best practices and process improvements. Develops plans to successfully implement operational policies and achieves business plan. Is accountable for managing and growing a revenue stream and customer base. Typically manages individual contributors. May serve as advisor for moderately complex engagements.

8+ years of experience relevant to this position including 4 years of consulting experience and 2 years of project management leadership experience. Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. Can lead, engage, mobilize and motivate multiple teams to accomplish goals. Product, technology or industry expertise relevant to the practice focus. Ability to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Solution Management of an Oracle Utilities solution on a day to day basis

  • Oracle Utilities architect experience on at least one solution support engagements or implementation engagements – preferably multiple Oracle products

  • Experience on at least one OUAF based product, preferred CC&B, C2M and MDM

  • Successful support experience including defect triage and new solution design and implementation

  • Utility industry experience (working directly for a utility) a plus

  • Experience & Ability to implement DevOps , Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CICD) metholdologies and processes.

  • Experience on Processes and Procedures automation ( Tools , scripts …)

  • Ability to recruit, lead, mentor and grow a high-performance team of Solution leads, architects, designers and developers in providing Solution Management capabilities to our customers

  • ITIL certification a plus; willingness to achieve ITIL certification as soon as practical after recruitment

  • Partner with client business leadership to seek input from larger client organization and educate this community on key changes to current processes

  • Provide leadership and guidance in defining the overall solution landscape and strategy

  • Provide leadership to the IMS team by promoting consistency across the team, including methodology, deliverable templates, terminology, etc

  • Ability to mentor and develop junior and intermediate architects in meeting their customer obligations

Internal Oracle

  • Key contributor to overall definition and growth of our IMS offering

  • Define the overall scope of service provided by the Solution Center

  • Review and provide content for proposals and RFP responses

  • Develop and maintain an estimation model for the Solution Center services

  • Working with IMS Delivery Management, contribute to and review contract language to define the Solution Management services

  • Provide support & guidance to Solution Management leads deployed to customer engagements

  • Maintain the Solution Management Plan and associated templates

  • Develop training plans for new hires into Solution Management Leadership roles

  • Act as mentor / primary support for Solution Management Leads

  • Responsible for assessing overall efficiency of the Solution Management team and recommending changes to structure or processes to streamline overall Solution Management operations


  • 10+ years of utility experience, with at least 5 years as architect role.

  • Closely aligned with the Oracle Utilities Product Development and Support teams to ensure that end-to-end solution is aligned to best leverage Oracle roadmap.

  • Overall oversight of and responsibility for the IMS Solution Management at the customer including deployment of staff to meet the Solution Management scope

  • Staff capacity planning for on-site and regional remote Solution Management personnel to meet anticipated needs within the defined staff plan

  • Collaboration with offshore teams for offshore Solution Management personnel capacity planning and deployment

  • Participation in the IMS team leadership and ensuring clear lines of communication within the IMS team for all Solution Management activities including clarity on expectations and requirements from other groups

  • Staff skill set management including recommending training or requesting new staff for specific activities/deliverables

  • Responsible for assessing overall efficiency of the Solution Management team and recommending changes to structure or processes to streamline overall Solution Center operations


  • Experience in key roles on Oracle Utilities implementations and support engagements

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Team management experience

Other Responsibilities

  • Promote consistency across the team to ensure that all Oracle, client and partner resources are using the same terminology and have a common view of the solution

  • Provide a consolidated picture of an end-to-end process

  • Serve as an escalation point to IMS management regarding engagement considerations and deliverables

  • Serve as main liaison between Solution Management leadership, Help Desk, Operations Management and Delivery Management for issues concerning program delivery

  • Define a common strategy and processes for defining, measuring, and delivering value to our clients. Develop communications for executive level reporting of value delivered on a quarterly and annual basis for all of our managed service clients.
