SMX is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing team! This position is 100% remote.

As a Staff Accountant you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment supporting enterprise-wide initiatives for a middle-market government contracting company. The successful candidate will support the General Ledger function. This position will report to the General Ledger Manager who oversees the day-to-day accounting activities.

Specific duties for the Staff Accountant will include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing journal entries

  • Performing month end close tasks

  • Monitoring and tracking daily cash activity

  • Entering cash receipts in Costpoint

  • Preparing and supporting account reconciliations

  • Researching and resolving vendor invoice and payment issues

  • Supporting the preparation and filing of tax schedules, business licenses and permits

  • Assisting with external audit requests

  • Maintaining Vendor W9 files and preparing/mailing annual 1099’s

  • Creating new vendors in Costpoint

  • Supporting team on ad hoc requests

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Clearance Required: None. US Citizenship required for work under DoD contracts.

  • At least two years’ experience in accounting for government contractor

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

  • Advanced organizational skills, time management and flexibility

  • A strong attention to detail

  • Proactive learning ability, a strong work ethic, and a high level of personal integrity

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Experience in accounting operations in Commercial, State, Local, Educational as well as Federal Markets

  • Knowledge of state filing process

  • Experience working in multi-entity environment and intercompany payables

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Costpoint 8.0

  • BS in Accounting, or pursuing an accounting degree desired
