Summary:

In April 2018, Facebook launched a new initiative to help provide independent, credible research about the role of social media in elections and democracy and we are continuing to expand to new verticals. We are seeking a Technical Program Manager who can manage end-to-end the implementation of both our vertical work streams, and services to internal teams. This role will work in partnership with functions across the company to ensure the initiative’s success. You'll be working with some of the world's most talented Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Researchers, and Product Managers to define the approach for building systems and processes to share data to help the research community understand social media’s impact on the world. You'll also provide cross-team and executive presentations to gain buy-in from key stakeholders. Technical Program Managers heavily contribute to planning, negotiating cross-team dependencies, and representing the research community.

Required Skills:

  1. Plan and execute large strategic initiatives for Facebook Open Research Team

  2. Ensure flawless execution for engineering teams, from planning to execution, align teams, set clear communication and coordinate engineering/data efforts

  3. Collaborate with Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, Engineers, Researchers and other key stakeholders to drive consensus on program goals, deliverables and timelines

  4. Anticipate technical dependencies and bottlenecks, provide escalation management, and balance the program needs versus technical constraints

  5. Partner with other Technical Program Managers, Product Managers and Engineering Managers across the Facebook Open Research Team Organization to ensure our team is adapting and iterating on best practices

  6. Establish metrics to measure and improve Facebook Open Research Team initiatives and document previous learnings to build customizable solutions

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience

  2. 7+ years of Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or Technical Product/Program Management experience

  3. Experience delivering technical programs or products from inception to delivery

  4. Knowledge of user needs, gathering requirements, and defining scope

  5. Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams, demonstrated critical thinking, and thought leadership

  6. Communication experience and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products

  7. Organizational, coordination and multi-tasking experience

  8. Analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems

  9. Experience establishing work relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple partners in different time zones
