Principal Trust Investment Officer in Des Moines, Iowa
As a crucial part of the Principal Custody Solutions team you will play an integral role in leading Trust Investment Committees and Pricing and Valuation Committees. As the Trust Investment Officer you will also oversee reviews of entities hired by the organization to help evaluate investment management with the business.
Examples of things you’ll do:
Establish, maintain and execute on monitoring programs designed to oversee investment management including reviewing exception reports produced by portfolio managers, working with them on their responses, and ensuring all exceptions are addressed consistent with our policies and procedures.
Serve as a liaison with Principal Global Investors (internal business unit) to assess risks, close gaps, and provide trustee feedback.
Serve as the subject matter expert for a variety of investment management items including approval of model portfolio, approval of rule parameters within Charles River and SEI trading systems, including ad-hoc, periodic, and annual reviews.
Responsible for initially establishing and maintaining investment policies, procedures, and charters for several investment committees and will serve as the key resource for any governance, policies or procedure, or charter related items.
An individual who will be successful in the role will have understanding of investment and fiduciary risk including an awareness of liquidity concepts, counterparty risk, and various investment risk framework methodologies.
Bachelor's degree (accounting, finance, economics or business preferred) or equivalent experience, plus a minimum of 3-4 years related experience required. Progress towards master’s degree or Chartered Financial Analyst designation preferred.
Strong knowledge of investment management concepts including the review of Investment Management Agreement, Investment Policy Statements, and key investment risk concepts such as drift monitoring and concentration.
Experience working with Order Management Systems and pre and post trade clearance tools.
Experience working with rules-based portfolio monitoring tools for ongoing review (such as SEI).• Success in this position requires rigorous attention to detail, a strong quantitative financial background, and effective decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively in a deadline driven environment while managing multiple priorities is essential. Knowledge of financial services and investment related terminology preferred
Solid analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, time management, planning, decision making, and communication skills required
Must be detailed oriented
Basic PC and/or system skills required
Must have the ability to take initiative, be a self-starter and work independently
Some travel required; overall expectation would be once monthly.
