ARAG North America Underwriting Data Analyst in Des Moines, Iowa

ARAG is hiring an Underwriting Data Analyst! This person will partner with teams to analyze client-level trends and provide recommendations to drive strong underwriting decisions. The ability to translate complex data and concepts into language that stakeholders can understand is required. Advanced Excel skills is also required for this role.
Completes data and reporting requests from internal stakeholders across the company, both promptly and accurately. This includes creating, managing, and providing detailed client-level reports.
Prepares data for analysis of client profitability and makes recommendations. Assists in pricing reviews on occasion.
Utilizes underwriting model and guidelines to rate new and existing business.
Guides implementation of underwriting decisions through collaboration with client support and finance teams. This includes ensuring proper premium allocation with regards to regulatory compliance.
Works collaboratively with others to identify and understand business problems, questions, and data needs.
Performs data validation and cleansing.
Identifies and recommends process improvement opportunities in areas such as data collection, validation, client renewal analysis and implementation.
Uses knowledge of data and business processes to make recommendations to stakeholders.
Actively seeks opportunities to learn new knowledge and skills.
Pulls data from relevant databases and other sources and conducts analysis of data to identify trends and variances in revenue and losses. This includes creating, managing, and providing projection reports.
Provides in-depth qualitative and quantitative analyses to make recommendations for changes in how ARAG underwrites, distributes, markets, and sells our products.
Produces detailed client level reporting.
Provides material support for expansion and diversification initiatives.
Conducts research and studies to identify areas that could present opportunities.
Provides cross-functional consultation to advance company initiatives.
Serves as a positive role model by representing ARAG at its Best.
Other duties as assigned.
Thorough knowledge in the area(s) of mathematics, statistics and data analysis.
Basic data querying capabilities.
Understanding of processes to ensure data quality and accuracy.
Knowledge of insurance and/or financial services, knowledge of employee benefit industry a plus.
Ability to translate complex data and concepts into language and visualizations that can be readily understood by business stakeholders.
Ability to understand business issues and provide guidance and recommendations from a data perspective.
Experience with data cleansing and validation.
Ability to take ownership and independently manage requests from initiation through execution to completion.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate analysis to diverse audiences.
Ability to clearly communicate data definitions, rules, and parameters in business-friendly language.
Detail-oriented and able to balance multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience performing data queries strongly preferred.
Experience with Salesforce preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Power Point, Word and Outlook).
- Four-year college degree in business, finance, statistics, or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis in the insurance industry.
