Job Description

The State Training School (STS) at Eldora offers a holistic social, behavioral, psychiatric, academic and vocational program that utilizes counseling, treatment, and consequences paired with praise and opportunity to males, ages 12 to 18 years old who have been adjudicated delinquent. Services and programs provide individualized treatment and offer comprehensive education, with a goal of transitioning the young man back to his community. The facility is operated by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS).

Coordination with the Psychologists, Psychiatrists, the Medical Team, Counselors, and the Cottage Parents is essential to the proper functioning of the treatment team. The person occupying this position will provide clerical duties to staff and consulting Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and others to facilitate documentation and communication. There will be no boring days as the occupant will serve as a receptionist in the medical area, work with the switchboard, log documentation, and overall enjoy a nice diversity of task. The position provides excellent compensation and exceptional benefits.

The State Training School is located in Eldora, Iowa, home of the Pine Lake State Park which offers an array of outdoor recreational activities. Eldora is an Iowa River Greenbelt Community featuring quaint shops, eating choices, and plenty of family friendly activity. The Iowa River Greenbelt Scenic Drive is a must do which winds through a picturesque landscape of valleys, woods and streams. Eldora is 45 minutes from Ames and Cedar Falls and only 22 minutes from Iowa Falls.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and experience equal to one year of full-time clerical office support work.

  • The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and a total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one year of post-high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely-related curriculum or 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.

  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Typist.
