UnityPoint Health Patient Access Credentialed Trainer-Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa

The Patient Access Credentialed Trainer is responsible for the analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation of Revenue Cycle related information systems that may impact any department or user under the guidance of the Manager of Clinical Informatics. This role will assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of the end user training experience and training materials for UnityPoint Health-Des Moines’ hospital based and ambulatory areas/departments related to Epic ADT Prelude and Cadence applications. This role is an integral member of the UPH-DM Clinical Informatics team and serves as a liaison between IT and end users with applications related to patient access functions, revenue cycle and may assist with other applications as assigned.

  • Responsible to master specific Epic applications and UPH-DM workflows; developing and implementing end user training for UPH-DM constituencies.

  • Serves as integral member of the UPH-DM Clinical Informatics team; identifies and seeks approval for optimization requests and assists in prioritization process.

  • Provides input and guidance to build and design teams regarding training plans, goals, and implementation within their defined area (scheduling, front desk applications, ADT- bed planning, registration and cashier).

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of training policies, procedures, and training materials for Cadence scheduling applications and Prelude ADT functions.

  • Assist in the schedule and coordination of training resources across UPH-DM for central and satellite registration areas, lab registration, radiology front desk functions and physician office staff who complete PAC’s registrations.

  • Prepares classroom and test materials prior to scheduled student classes.

  • Conducts training sessions as outlined in the master schedule for ADT prelude and Cadence applications.

  • Monitors on-line pre-requisite training requirements and post class room testing required and reports critical issues to department management.

  • Conducts audits of revenue cycle work queues to ensure standards are being met.

  • Facilitates the development of reporting tools for accurate patient access completion and revenue cycle monitoring.

  • Keeps current by reviewing pertinent literature and attending job related educational programs/workshops.

  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Minimal Qualifications

  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals of diverse professional, educational and lifestyle backgrounds.

  • Strong analytical, team building and troubleshooting skills. Well respected by peers. Works effectively as a team member.

  • Experience with healthcare IT applications and knowledge of healthcare environment, and process workflows preferred.

  • Experience with using adult learning principles preferred (responsible for training end-users).

  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Professional products preferred

Specific Qualifications

  • Minimum two years’ experience in Revenue Cycle operations in hospital, registration, scheduling, billing and/or physician front desk practice.

  • Knowledgeable in the use of the electronic medical record.


  • Two years of college or two years comparable work experience in Revenue Cycle operations such as patient access, scheduling and/or hospital billing.

  • Medical Terminology certificate required or successful completion within the first year of employment.


  • Must achieve Epic credentialed trainer status within 4 to 6 months of hire for assigned Epic module(s).
