The Production Manager role is a key management role requiring strong communication, leadership and analytical skills. The primary function is to develop and maintain a skilled workforce, consisting of functional work teams, and to meet or exceed our BHAG performance standards. The Production Manager is responsible for quality and quantity outputs as well as overall manufacturing operations. Expectations are to meet or exceed the identified company-wide Key Focuses and associated SMART Goals. The success of this position is based on meeting these goals and effectively carrying out the following “Core Duties and Responsibilities.”

Essential Job Functions:

¨ Supervise, evaluate, and train employees

¨ Prioritize, plan and implement daily/weekly work schedule

¨ Execute information systems reporting and data maintenance (Friedman system)

¨ Participate in troubleshooting

¨ Aid in new product and process development

¨ Develop, administer, and enforce policies, procedures and programs

¨ Manage to the union contract

¨ Attain continuous improvement goals

¨ Assist in customer complaint resolution

¨ Investigate production flow delays and expedite corrective action

¨ Develop and implement cost reduction and productivity projects

¨ Initiate measures to ensure a safe workplace

¨ Facilitate employee conflict resolution and promote team building

¨ Assist with machine modifications and purchase justification

¨ Maintain a relationship with Union representatives

¨ Attend, participate, and conduct meetings

¨ Complete administrative paperwork

¨ Champion lean manufacturing principles

¨ Actively participate in Corporate Initiative efforts

¨ Other duties as assigned


Troubleshooting and decision making are frequently used to resolve personnel and manufacturing issues. Additionally, skillful problem solving is necessary to ensure product quality and maintain an “On Time” schedule. Occasionally a decision must be made to redistribute workload to another area or to impose overtime in an effort to meet BHAG. When product quality becomes an issue, the decision to repair or remake must be made. A critical part of the daily decision making involves interpreting new orders to accurately implement the production procedure throughout the plant. Decision making would also include equipment purchases (< $2000) and employee discipline, hiring, etc.
