The Senior Estimator is charged with quickly and accurately preparing cost estimates independently for construction projects to aid management in bidding on, or determining the price of, a construction project utilizing historical company data and current market pricing. This position may specialize according to a particular service performed or a type of project.

    Building Relationships

  • Build relationships and trust both internally and externally by fostering open and honest communication while maintaining professionalism

  • Build an open dialogue with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to accurately communicate changes and adjustments to cost estimates

  • Be an active participant in interviews to secure work and bid presentations to clients

  • Maintain a team oriented and results driven mentality; we are vital to each other's success

  • Independently solicit, analyze, and organize bids from subcontractors and suppliers, accurately transferring that information into a proposal package

  • Independently complete quantity take-off

  • Independently compile accurate estimates or proposals to submit for management use in planning, organizing, and scheduling work

  • Attend pre-bid meetings and/or site visits

  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to accurately prepare time, cost, and materials estimates

  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services; tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops

  • All other duties as assigned

  • Utilize the appropriate technology to provide best in class project solutions

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and communicate those opportunities prudently and tactfully

  • Document processes as they evolve to assist in department communication

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, and/or equivalent combination of work and education experience

  • 4+ years of construction estimating experience preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)

  • Exceptional communication and effective listening skills, inclusive of the ability to interact and work well across all levels of the company

  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to adapt to multiple priorities in a changing environment

  • Effective contributor and team player, which can plan and organize a team with the capacity to motivate and boost morale

    Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently in an office environment.

  • Frequent activities of office environment include sitting, standing, walking, typing and other computer work, using telephone and other standard office equipment

  • Occasional activities of the office environment include balancing, bending/stooping, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion
