Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the "Pearl of the Prairie" is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Lenox holds an amazing four day Rodeo every July and is home to a beautiful 36-9 hole golf course, several fishing and boating lakes, great area hunting, a beautiful city park with swimming pool, and many picnic parks. The MFI location in Lenox produces primarily pre-cooked egg patties. Responsibilities #1stshift #firstinpeople POSITION SUMMARY: This position reports to the Project Manager and is responsible for fabrication and repair of equipment and items related to sanitary food manufacturing. This position has the responsibility to always comply with safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed, and complied with uniformly, to reduce product and process variability. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Fabricate required equipment, conveyors, guards, piping etc. used in sanitary food manufacturing. Follow all plant safety, sanitation, and GMP requirements including USDA and OSHA for food and machinery safety manufacturing process. Work with departments to improve our process through repair, redesign, or manufacture. Improve or resolve ergonomics issues by redesign or manufacture. Improve equipment and shop efficiencies in manufacture. Gain the technical knowledge and skills to be a proficient fabrication operator Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and healthy in all jobs and tasks. Adhere to Quality work practices, follow all GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality. Generally, organize and prepare required materials, supplies, parts, tools, and equipment to complete assigned tasks. Set up monitor and maintain equipment in accordance with safety rules and regulations. Clean and maintain all tools and equipment and maintain a clean work environment Qualifications PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Know and be proficient in TIG, MIG and stick welding procedures. Must be knowledgeable with types of stainless steel and their use in sanitary conditions. Must be able to read, understand, and build from blueprints. Ability to manufacture from measurements or visual representations. Must have good communication skills, work ethics, attitude and be self-motivated. Manufacture to prescribed quality, efficiency and in accordance with instructions, specifications, controls, and plans. Must possess good mechanical and electrical skills. Ability to use measurement tools. Tape measure, caliper, levels, and laser levels. Must be available for weekends on an “as needed” basis. Ability to stoop, bend, and crawl Must be able to read and understand operations manuals and follow oral or written instructions and have good analytical and problem-solving skills. Must have a good knowledge of engineering principles. Must be proficient in metallurgy and metal working including understanding metals and their uses and using metal working equipment furnished in the fabrication shop. Must be able to lift 80lbs up to 100lbs on occasion.
