Material/Formulation Chemist – Mason City, IA *Relocation Assistance Offered

  • Direct Hire

  • Shift: M-F 8a-5p

  • Pay Range: competitive, DOE

We are seeking a hands-on and technically sound Material/Formulation Chemist in our Mason City, Iowa plant to support our large-scale rubber mixing and processing efforts in the plant.


  • Lead our lab mixing team and processes, manage the Mixer Control Systems, and develop new or improve existing mix procedures and maintenance of control system.

  • Provides RPA Data Analysis on projects and programs that require compound and process development and / or compound changes.

  • Conduct and coordinate lab testing for stock/part quality.

  • Collaborate with R & D Lab, Purchasing and suppliers to manage raw materials.

  • Coordinate all plant environmental and regulatory support and maintenance of MSDS systems.

  • Implement ongoing quality/safety/cost improvement processes and procedures.

  • Comply with safety standards, including adequate use of proper personal protective equipment, and ensures that correct PPE is available.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or similar OR HS diploma with equivalent experience

  • Proficiency in the statistical design and analysis of experimental data

  • Ability to author, read, and follow detailed instructions

  • Ability to perform material tests and prepare samples

  • Excellent communication skills, technical and mathematical ability, and mechanical aptitude

  • Strong attention to detail; collaboration and ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; and perform in accordance with company values

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of rubber/elastomer mixing experience preferred

  • Experience with Intermeshing and Tangential mixers preferred

  • Management experience preferred
