Alternate Paint Technician

As the Alternate Paint Technician with Safco Products, you will prepare, mix and inspect powder paints for proper paint application on office products and office furniture by applying high-quality standards and partnering with other manufacturing cells, to ensure product meets internal and external customer and quality standards. You will assist with technical areas as it relates to the Paint system, paint guns, settings and adjustments.

The position will flex between production operations and the technician role on an as needed basis and majority of the time will be painting or assisting loading and unloading responsibilities. In the Paint Tech\'s absence, the Alternate will assist with those duties.

This full-time position reports directly to the Paint Supervisor and is located at Safco\'s manufacturing plant in Milford, Iowa.

Required Skills


  • Backfill Paint Technician responsibilities in his/her absence to include and understand:
    • Prepare and inspect powder paints for proper paint application on product and components
    • Apply paints per manufacturing specifications
    • Follow all principles and practices of paint applications
    • Operate and maintain paint booth system and observe gauges and equipment operations to detect defects
    • Perform preventative maintenance on paint equipment and paint work area.
    • Ensure accurate dispensing and labeling of color lab paint samples.
    • Ensure that all components are produced/coated efficiently with high quality standard
    • Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures and identify
    • Troubleshoot issues that may occur within the paint booth system
    • Understand and follow procedures dealing with parts flow and manufacturing process
    • Mentor new and existing team members on painting technique
    • Perform daily monitoring of wash and waste treatment systems and document all readings.
    • Maintain wash and waste treatment systems to the company standards.
    • Maintain waste streams and file required documentation.
    • Perform and maintain burnoff system. Keep up 5S standards.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years of experience and knowledge of powder paint and maintaining paint equipment
  • Ability to understand basic mechanical and manufacturing techniques
  • Must be able to distinguish colors since the job involves color inspection
  • Must be able to lift 50-75 pound repeatedly
  • Ability to stand, bend, twist and lift for 8+ hours per day
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate a computer and access programs, make transactions, and solve simple computer functions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to successfully pass respiratory test
