POSITION SUMMARY:Set up machine and area to manually weld parts per engineering specifications.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position: RESPONSIBILITIESUsing engineering drawings and welding procedures, setup and weld parts using GMAW wire feed equipment.Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding.Ensure parts to be welded conform to engineering drawings and specifications.Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.Inspect completed parts for weld quality and conformance to specifications.Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scraper or power chipper, portable grinder, or arc-cutting equipment.Positions work pieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtures.Checks grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments. Selects and inserts electrode or gas nozzles into holder and connects hoses and cables to obtain gas or specified amperage, voltage, or polarity.Connects and turns regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow land pressure to obtain desired flame.
