Bandag Machine Design Engineer in MUSCATINE, Iowa

Engineering Design & Development and Support

  • Responsible for maintaining dealer equipment MRP system which includes maintaining part numbers, part descriptions, Manufacturing and Engineering BOM's, processing Engineering Change Orders, and ensuring the accuracy of engineering drawings as changes are made.

  • Responsible for design and development of new equipment, and replacement components to support for global dealer systems while working closely with Sr. Engineers.

  • Maintain legacy machine designs by releasing Engineering Change Orders that overcome component obsolescence and introduce design enhancements to existing equipment to ensure maximum uptime for franchised dealers.

  • Responsible for testing, creation of operations manuals, technical knowledge transfer, product lifecycle management, and production release of new global dealer retread equipment while working closely other Engineering groups and departments.

  • Utilizes advanced computer aided design tools such as AutoCAD and Creo to document machine design.

  • Proposes new technology to keep equipment and processes technologically advanced and leading the industry in product quality, productivity, and energy efficiency.

  • Participates on sub-core process teams by evaluating existing processes and equipment and recommends modifications and refinements resulting in cost savings and quality & safety improvements.

  • Makes informed recommendations on equipment required for manufacturing.

  • Leads projects or processes of diverse scope, while working independently with limited supervision.

  • Coaches and reviews the work of lower level professionals.

Consulting & Communications

  • Visits manufacturing plants and commercial franchised dealers to study processes; consult with personnel and make recommendations.

  • Represents the company in contacts with outside suppliers of services and equipment.

  • Conveys information to plants on equipment or process improvements in all areas of responsibility.

Maintenance of Expertise

  • Maintains reference documents, technical work instructions and forms in the QMS system.

  • Attends trade shows, technical seminars, and reads technical publications to keep abreast of the latest technology.

Technology Development

  • Uses experience, knowledge, and creativity to recommend ideas for technology development.

Decision Making and Responsibility

  • Design and development of equipment to be sold commercially to franchised dealers. Collaboration within GES is required with the electrical engineering team, project engineering team and the process engineering team to make decisions regarding machine hardware and manufacturing processes. Collaboration outside of GES is required with IT, Purchasing and Logistics.

Typically requires a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience

Provide engineering services and support to the global commercial dealer systems operations through evaluation, analysis, design, upgrading and installation of equipment and process systems. The incumbent has some knowledge on equipment in the PCT manufacturing plants as well as the commercial dealer retreading equipment. The incumbent possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills. A Senior Professional position applies advanced knowledge of a job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.
