Position Summary

Travel is expected to be 15% to 50%.

To provide engineering services and technical support to commercial dealer systems operations for activities associated with product development, sponsored research projects, process development, process optimization, process troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate will be an expert in Bandag retread products, processes, and equipment.

The Senior Process Engineer- Retread position is required work in the learning center in Muscatine, IA area.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Retread Process Engineer, you will be responsible for:

1. Product Development:

  • Participate in tread mold design reviews and evaluate new products through the PCT retreading process.

  • Create and execute project work orders.

  • Collaborate on product development projects.

  • Collect and analyze test data. Summarize results and conclusions.

  • Define buffed tire profiles and conduct special tire analyses.

2. Process Development:

  • Use experience, knowledge, and creativity to implement new ideas for technology development.

  • Provide on-site Process Engineering support.

  • Develop functional process specifications for new equipment.

  • Collaborate with other groups to support new equipment development.

  • Conduct tire building and curing process studies.

3. Process Optimization:

  • Initiate and provide technical support for development of process improvements.

  • Initiate optimization projects to reduce cost, improve processability, and quality in retreaded tire production.

4. Process Troubleshooting:

  • Provide technical support to correct and prevent processing related issues.

  • Identify and help to resolve retread dealer shop processing and product quality problems.

  • Perform type and cause of failure analysis for dealers/fleets and internal customers.

  • Lead continuous improvement and Kaizen activities.

  • Lead Six Sigma projects and demonstrate successful implementation.

5. Consulting and Communications:

  • Visit commercial dealers to study processes, consult with personnel and make recommendations.

  • Represent the company in contacts with outside suppliers and field support.

  • Provide process training to Dealer Equipment design and other corporate groups as requested.

  • Be responsible with the technical knowledge, documentation, and control of the PCT retreading process.

  • Serve as technical expert/resource to Technical Support Representatives for the commercial dealer systems.

6. Maintenance of Expertise:

  • Develop and maintain reference documents.

  • Stay abreast of the latest technology.

  • Coach/mentor other engineers and technicians.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering is preferred. Associates degree with significant experience and relevant trade knowledge will be considered

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience
