L.L. Pelling Company, Inc. Heavy Equipment Mechanic in North Liberty, Iowa
LL Pelling is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic based in our North Liberty shop to maintain and repair our construction equipment and fleet vehicles. This is a full-time, year-round position that works in a collaborative team environment. Mechanics must have a solid work ethic and teamwork mentality. This position will travel and work in construction sites and our Cedar Rapids shop, as needed; a company truck is provided for this position. Mechanics must be available to work overtime, night shift, and weekends as needed.
Responsibilities:
Perform light and heavy service on equipment and vehicles such as preventative and predictive maintenance
Troubleshoot malfunctions and determine repairs needed
Complete maintenance and repair logs by hand
Communicate with shop employees, paving crew members, forepersons, superintendents, shop manager, and others as needed
Maintain and secure work tools
Clean and maintain a safe work area
Know and observe lock-out/tag-out and all other safety procedures
Observe environmental rules by properly disposing of waste oil/lube and filters and taking care in fueling and cleaning equipment
Maintain security of site by removing ignition keys from vehicles not in use and locking all gates when leaving site
Additional duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
Valid Class A commercial driver's license with airbrake endorsement and insurable driving record
2 years experience repairing heavy construction equipment and fleet vehicles and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
Dependable attendance: show up to work on time every day scheduled
Able to perform simple mathematical calculations
Able to work independently with little to no direction
Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Competent in the English language to read, write, speak, and listen
Physical Requirements:
Able to work outside in all weather conditions as well as an indoor shop
Have clarity of speech and hearing which permits effective communication
Have sufficient vision which permits moderate review of a wide variety of materials both in electronic and hardcopy formats (ex: operating manuals, safety plans, inspection forms, etc.)
Have sufficient manual dexterity to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; use hand tools for repair and maintenance; and document work performed in electronic and hardcopy formats
Lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 75 pounds as needed
Stand, sit, squat, kneel, bend, crouch, twist, reach, climb into and out of equipment, and use a ladder as needed
Work Environment:
Job hazards include exposure to dust, noise, fumes, and all types of weather conditions
This position may work on closed or partially closed interstates, highways, and other sites next to fast moving traffic
The noise level is usually loud
