Position Summary

This position will oversee and direct the activities of the accounting department and staff. Ensure that reports, accounts, systems, polices and practices adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Salary range for this position is $115,090.20 - $172,635.30 with a progressive benefit package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs essential duties and responsibilities in the following areas which may include but are not limited to those listed and are subject to change.

  • Provides strategic direction and day to day oversight of accounting operations. Regularly stay-in touch with peers to ensure best practices and structure of department.

  • Proactively, ensures that the team is adequately staffed and sufficiently cross trained to provide back-up.

  • Maintains up to date Polices & Procedures manual to assist in training and to streamline credit union accounting procedures.

  • Oversees share draft, ACH, RDC and late returns, and other related tasks.

  • Oversees outgoing wires policy and related fraud prevention.

  • Oversees and maintains accounts payable processes ensuring efficiency along with adequate staffing and processes to enable timely payment of all invoices, bills, and expenses.

  • Completes timely correspondent statement reconciliations.

  • Ensures the proper and timely completion of all credit union regulatory reporting to the local, state, and national governments pertaining to tax, payroll, and other matters. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for all NCUA, ILCCU, Federal Reserve and other entity reporting requirements.

  • Ensures the credit union’s fixed assets and prepaid / accrued expense records are updated and maintained.

  • Leads innovation and process improvements for the Accounting team.

  • Ensures that all employee expense reports, and corporate credit card statements are processed and paid in a cost and labor effective manner.

  • Develops and maintains an appropriate expense reimbursement policy and software related program.

  • Assists in the month-end, quarterly and year end closing process as directed by Controller and/or CFO.

  • Prepares and conducts performance evaluations, prepares documentation for retention in personnel files. Working with HR, recommends and implements disciplinary actions and appropriate staff counseling within the department as needed.

  • Coordinates, tracks, and monitors daily scheduling within those that report directly to this position including overtime, leave of absences, and prepares periodic tracking reports for the Human Resources department.

  • Meets attendance standards to perform job functions including physical presence to provide team oversite, coordination of work, and ongoing feedback.

  • Plays a vital role in enriching the community by participating in community service organizations and/or credit union sponsored events, on an annual basis.

  • Performs any other temporary or permanent duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer or CEO.

Job Requirements/Expectations

  • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.

  • Ten plus (10+) years of relevant business experience in accounting with 5-7 years of demonstrated progressive leadership experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Senior level of proficiency with MS Office and experience presenting to Senior Leadership.

  • Proven ability to demonstrate a drive for results and accountability of business needs.

  • Strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills including the ability to lead up, across and down the organization.

  • Proven ability to demonstrate a drive for results and accountability of business needs.

  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation and achieve objectives.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Accounting Specialists, Accounting Liaisons and Accounting Processors.
