Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for the management, training, scheduling and development of maintenance personnel providing support to the Production/Processing areas. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks. Supervision of maintenance crew. Production support in the Production / Processing areas. Creates work orders and PMs. Responsible for installing new equipment. Troubleshoots problems with equipment. Provides a safe work environment for employees. Recognizes and takes steps to resolve operating problems in order to minimize their impact on the operations. Cooperates with all departments to assure a coordinated work relationship exists at all times. Keeps accurate and up-to-date records (I.E. timecards, downtime records, absentee records, etc.) Enforces company policies in a fair and consistent manner. Encourages suggestions from employees which will improve production, quality, safety and/or control costs of production. Keeps manager informed on operating and/or employee problems which may require their attention or knowledge. Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety. Responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Two years of mechanical and electrical maintenance and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Associate’s degree (AA) or two-year technical certificate in Mechanics and Electronics or a related field Knowledge of basic mechanics, welding, electrical, fabrication, preventative maintenance, plant operations and government safety regulations. Able to supervise department personnel in a fair and consistent manner. Be able to recognize problem situations and take appropriate steps to resolve. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in group situations. Ability to respond to questions from internal/external customers/vendors at all levels including management. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
