Indian Hills Community College Athletic Fields & Facilities Manager in Ottumwa, Iowa

Job Summary:

This position involves the care and maintenance of all of IHCC’s athletic fields and other related facilities on the Ottumwa and Centerville campuses. In addition to outdoor field maintenance and preparation, care of the college’s Tom Arnold Net Center and Hellyer Student Life Center, including general maintenance, renovation/deferred maintenance projects, custodial work, and snow removal.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Two-year degree in Landscape and Turfgrass Technology or related field.

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in athletic fields and grounds maintenance work preferred.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a tractor and other machinery.

  • Must understand/be familiar with preventive maintenance.

  • Must be able to lift or move 50 lbs.

  • Possession or willingness to obtain certification for turf and ornamental application of chemicals.

Work Performed:

  • Plan and schedule daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance on athletic fields and indoor facilities.

  • Oversee and maintain indoor and outdoor facilities throughout the year, including refinishing and sealing and/or cleaning gymnasium floors; fertilizing, top dressing, seeding, mowing, rolling and marking all field.

  • Schedule and maintain irrigation systems.

  • Mow, aerate, seed, spray, top-dress, paint, fertilize, sod, etc.

  • Work closely with coaches to prepare fields for practice and games.

  • Operate and maintain various types of equipment including mowers, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, tillers, etc.

  • Perform general labor, may include lifting up to 50 lbs or more.

  • Maintain landscape areas by mulching, pruning, planting, and weeding.

  • Perform necessary work to prepare and maintain athletic/recreational facilities on a daily basis for all programs and activities throughout the year, including but not limited to maintenance of all playing fields, gymnasiums, weight rooms, bleachers, and related facilities. (Maintenance activities include preparation of playing sites/areas for practices and games, erection and disassembling of bleachers and other related sports equipment.)

  • Keep grounds free of litter and debris.

  • Perform duties in accordance with OSHA regulations.

  • Apply various fertilizers and pesticides.

  • Maintain pesticide applicator certification.

  • Assist with snow removal as needed.

  • Assist in managing daily facilities operations.

  • Make necessary repairs and maintain athletic apparatus, such as metal cages, nets, goals and equipment for baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, track and volleyball.

  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to assigned areas.

  • Oversee the upkeep and preventive maintenance of assigned facilities.

  • Assist in coordinating custodial and maintenance functions.

  • Assist in maintaining building security and report problems to appropriate authority.

  • May supervise students and provide guidance to staff who work in assigned areas.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Salary Range:

$32,923.00 - 39,763.00 ($19.15 - 23.13)
