CITY OF OTTUMWA Maintenance Supervisor - Water Pollution Control Facility in Ottumwa, Iowa

Summary of PositionThe Maintenance Supervisor is a non-exempt, skilled supervisory position located at the Cityis Grade IV Activated Sludge Water Pollution Control Facility reporting directly to the Superintendent. The Maintenance Supervisor will directly supervise and coordinate the activities of maintenance technicians. The Maintenance Supervisor maintains responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective operations of the facility. The Maintenance Supervisor should possess extensive independent knowledge and skill of plumbing, pumps, electrical, instrumentation, controls, mechanical and building trades, and supervision of technicians in the maintenance of all equipment. Through supervising, assigning and assisting maintenance technicians and other personnel, the employee maintains a constant check on equipment efficiency and maintenance records.II.i iiii Duties and ResponsibilitiesCore Duties and Responsibilities - The following duties are the primary in this position, but do not compose an exclusive or all-encompassing list of duties. Other duties may be assigned or required to accomplish the main goals of this position.ii Directs, inspects and participates in the operation and maintenance of the machinery and equipment at the Water Pollution Control Facility and pumping stationsii Directs, assigns, and assists the work of maintenance technicians in all areasii Maintain preventative maintenance and work orders data base using the facilityis computerized maintenance management systemii Responsible for maintaining inventory of spare parts and for ordering of repair parts and other maintenance related equipment ii Directly responsible for maintaining flood protection equipment and programed maintenance cycles. Examples include exercising sluice gates as required, annual megger testing program.ii Interpret record / as-built drawings, specifications, or diagrams to help inform othersiAdditional Duties and Responsibilities - The following tasks are necessary for operations of the landfill, but may be shared with or performed by other staff members. Other duties may be assigned or required to accomplish the main goals of this position.iInspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rulesMonitor employeesi work levels and review work performance Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, or maintenance techniques, operational procedures or equipment useDevelop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and proceduresConfer with personnel, such as management and operators, to coordinate work activities, resolve employee grievances, or identify and review resource needsParticipate in budget preparation, coordinating purchasing and documentation and monitoring departmental expenditures to budgetOther duties as assignediQualifications - The ability to perform the Core Duties and Additional Duties listed above and:iA.iiiiiii Education/Training/CertificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent requiredIowa Backflow Certification preferredMust possess and maintain within six (6) months of hire.Possess and maintain valid Commercial Driveris license iClass Bi along with Tank and Air Brake EndorsementMust obtain within six (6) months of employmentGrade II Wastewater Operator Certificate preferredMust obtain within six (6) months of meeting the exam eligibility requirementsSeven (7) years combination of maintenance experience and Supervision experience preferredExamples include; various types of pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical, instrumentation, controls, mechanical and building trades.Journeyman electrician license preferred, but not requiredB. Skillsiiii MechanicalKnowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenanceThorough knowledge of hazards and safety
