Are you the type of engineer who likes to take on tough and challenging problems and create innovative solutions for them? Vermeer is looking for a self-motivated Embedded Hardware Engineer who is a creative thinker looking to solve unique problems. In this role you will develop, integrate, test, deploy, and maintain electronic hardware for control and sensing systems. In addition, you will assist with development of software that interfaces and drives the electronics. In this position, you will be part of a team to use your experiences in embedded hardware design and control system theory to develop unique embedded system solutions for harsh off-highway jobsites.

What You’ll Do
Responsible for developing, integrating, testing, debugging, and commissioning of embedded hardware control and sensing systems deployed in off-highway equipment.
Support and contribute to S/W development for GUI (Kivy, matplotlib), Ethernet (network configuration & driver support), CAN (J1939), driver modifications, I2C, Database (SQL and Structure).
Work with other engineers to ensure the systems are robust and functional in harsh off-road environments by guiding the development of environmental and EMC requirements, test system hardware, while applying industry standards and regulatory requirements where applicable.
Define and analyze hardware requirements and develop system level testing approaches and procedures for them.
Provide technical leadership, design reviews and assessments for high-complexity systems, including managing and mentoring less-experienced engineers.
Conduct make/buy decision and work with suppliers to purchase, build, and test the electrical equipment designed for both production quantities and small prototype builds.
Lead co-workers in maintaining an orderly electrical engineering work environment that embraces 5S principles for physical equipment, digital records, and software code.
What We’re Looking For
Four-year college degree in the field of Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Aerospace or Software Engineering with a minimum of two years related experience or other two or four-year college degree with a minimum of seven years of related experience.
Strong proficiency in electronic design automation tools, including a demonstrated ability in schematic capture, PCB layout, circuit analysis, and other specialized engineering software is required. Experience with Altium ECAD tools is preferred.
Practical experience with embedded software environments, such as Python, C, and C++ required. Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS is preferred.
Experience with serial interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and UART required. Knowledge of advanced protocols such as USB, CAN, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi preferred.
Experience in embedded control and sensing, power electronics, robotic, and/or guidance system design for offroad worksites and machine solutions.
Good working knowledge of engineering development processes, troubleshooting, and project management.
Experience in product development and field work of embedded systems for sensing or control in an outdoor construction or field research situations as found in petroleum, geophysical, or mining industries.
Travel
- Occasional travel is expected of this position.
Work Location
HYBRID: Some of a team member’s day-to-day work may be best done at a location other than a Vermeer campus. Discuss specific arrangements with your manager.
