Job Summary
Work Shift
1 - First Shift
The Engineer II - Machine Tool develops, evaluates, and improves machining processes to ensure company production, quality, and safety standards are maintained. Leads machine shop focused projects from inception to completion by supporting and implementing lean principles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Exhibit the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors.
Develop and improve processes to produce precision components in a low volume high mix environment. Utilize LEAN methodologies across a range of CNC machining and fabrication equipment.
Troubleshoot production issues. Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommends changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods. Confer with maintenance and/or vendors to troubleshoot production equipment issues.
Manage complex projects. Specify equipment, negotiate purchase, develop layout, coordinate installation and machine commissioning to production environment.
Direct programming team, managing the workload to ensure deadlines are met.
Specify tools, fixtures and gaging to perform operations.
Simplify setup time for workers to increase productivity for plants.
Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness. Work with engineering to enhance manufacturability of components.
Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
Education and/or Experience
4-year college degree with a major in Mechanical, Industrial, Agriculture or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years’ related experience.
Or other 2 or 4-year college degree with a minimum of 7 years’ related experience machine shop, preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities
Experience with CNC cutting tools, and machining methods.
Basic understanding of GD&T.
Proficient in CAD/CAM software (CREO, SolidWorks, and/or DraftSight, SigmaNest and/or Mastercam).
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Proficient with basic shop floor gaging methods.
Ability to assess situations and develop effective solutions. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to perform CNC program changes at the control on the shop floor. Proficiency with G code programming and macro variable logic.
Ability to effectively communicate, coach, and train shop floor team members on processing information.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Travel
Up to 10% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.
Work Location
ONSITE: A team member’s day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
