Van Gorp Corporation Shipping Clerk in Pella, Iowa

JOB SUMMARY:

Position performs a variety of clerical responsibilities and reporting functions for the shipping department, including but not limited to: clocking routers, pick tickets, bill of lading, receiving, check daily report on status of shipments, including pulling orders accurately in preparation for prompt shipment. Position requires operation of electric forklift and propane powered forklift for assisting other warehouse and shipping personnel.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Complete knowledge of all shipping and receiving documents.

  • Familiar with all Van Gorp products.

  • Clock orders by computer, which allows a pick ticket to be printed.

  • Obtains merchandise from warehouse shelves to fill orders for nonstock items or special orders, carefully verifying identifying information and quantities.

  • Pull and box bushings for shipment.

  • Compares identifying information and quantities on packing slip against the purchase order, counts items for verification, indicates any discrepancies and receive into the computer.

  • Enters other incoming shipments in the computer, as physical counts have already been verified.

  • Operate forklifts within prescribed safety regulations.

  • Perform daily vehicle inspection. Service with oil, water, gasoline and propane as appropriate. Report to supervisor need for major repairs. Fill out P.M. ticket.

  • Detect and report faulty operation, defective material and equipment and unusual conditions.

  • Detect and report any questionable materials or irregularities.

  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Perform other duties such as driving a forklift within the department, loading or unloading trucks, assisting other workers, etc., as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Office clerical skills, including use of computer.

  • Good communication skills – both verbal and written.

  • Capable of lifting and/or moving up to 60 pounds.

  • Capable of being on one’s feet for up to ten hours per shift.

  • Requires forklift operator’s license.

  • Ability to read and effectively use all gauging and instrumentation.

  • Ability to prioritize work assignments.
