Raytheon Technologies Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - XSBU Architect (Remote) in Remote City, Iowa

This position is for an experienced Systems Architect within the Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) strategic business unit helping to drive and architect the highly visible Connected Ecosystem strategic initiative. This role will develop the overall system strategy and architecture, lead development of work methods, provide support and guidance to various technical teams, and approve common work practices that are developed jointly with other Strategic Business Units (SBUs) within Collins and across Raytheon Technologies. This role will develop technology modernization and systems integration roadmaps for smart product solutions developed in concert with CAS, other SBUs, and Raytheon Technologies to unlock data and value across the organization.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with other SBUs to understand needs, capture originating requirements and establish Most Important Requirements (MIRs) for smart product solutions that integrate into the CAS ecosystem.

  • Develop technical solutions that meet or exceed the customer’s needs for the most demanding and complex projects.

  • Create and lead technology investment roadmaps to support the future needs of smart products

  • Make appropriate tradeoffs between cost, schedule, and scope while satisfying the needs of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Decompose customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements.

  • Guide complex engineering system development over the full product life cycle including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, validation, operation, maintenance and disposal to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Establish plans and strategy for requirements management and coordination of all teams involved in large projects.

  • Ensure corporate life cycle management processes (e.g., Collins Management System) are adhered to and provide recommendations for streamlining processes.

  • Develop and deliver global programs with international stakeholders within a matrixed functional organization.

  • Recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization’s projects.

  • Perform technical planning, including cost estimations and schedule development with acknowledgement of risks and opportunities.

  • Consider and evaluate alternative solutions through trade studies.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 20%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations

  • Minimum (5) years of aerospace/aviation domain experience.

  • Experience with the following technologies and disciplines: cloud computing, data science, web-based applications, connectivity technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and identify links and potential impact on projects, programs, or systems.

  • Experience working across organizational boundaries to architect solutions.

    The salary range for this role is $107,000.00 to $225,000.00; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
