UnityPoint Health Biomedical Technician II in Sioux City, Iowa
The Biomedical Technician II (BMET II) position is secondary tier level role with primary responsibilities for general and advanced patient care equipment service and maintenance performance. The BMET II position has direct reporting responsibilities to the assigned affiliate Unity Point Clinical Engineer Manager or designated Supervisor.

Technical Service
Perform preventative maintenance (PM) inspections, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspection, and operation verification on general and advanced biomedical equipment
Participate in installation project planning, install, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate general and advanced biomedical equipment (including PC’s) using test equipment, software, schematics, and service manuals
Portion of work may include PMs and service on equipment associated with imaging devices
Demonstrate general knowledge, troubleshooting, and understanding of PC’s, networks, and computer/network operating systems
Provide mentoring in the technical development of BMET I’s
Inform BMET III’s or supervisors of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections, equipment situations, and any customer concerns encountered
Work with, direct, and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery
Maintain biomedical expertise through ongoing vendor service training, in-house service training events, OJT, and other education delivery methods
Adhere to assigned on-call rotation at assigned affiliate site and follow required availability and reporting per the Clinical Engineering On-Call policy
Travel between affiliate regions and campuses may be required. Use of a personal vehicle may be required and will be reimbursed per UPH Travel policy.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) database to include incoming equipment inventory, preventative maintenance (PM) and all service related events, including service performed by vendors
Adheres to the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), including all state/federal regulatory agency compliances and other applicable procedures
Responsible for ensuring all service and documentation is completed timely and accurately per established standard.
Customer Relationship Management
Communicate and update all clinical customers as to medical equipment service and maintenance events and device status to assure best delivery of care for all UPH affiliate patients
Provide education to clinical customers as to proper use and operation of medical equipment
Education:
Associates degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or Information Technology/Systems related programs
Bachelor’s degree preferred. CompTIA Network+, Security+ or other IT related certifications preferred
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) year’s documented Biomedical Engineering Technology experience AND currently meets all BMET II job function requirements
License(s)/Certification(s):
- Valid unrestricted driver’s license required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Additional Information:
Requires well developed communication skills to effectively work with all levels of employees, including Management, throughout UnityPoint Health, its subsidiaries and affiliates
Personal cellphone required. A stipend will be provided to offset a portion of a personal cell phone plan expense.
