The Role

The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for developing, refining, and championing data models, strategies, and solutions to improve quality, value, and accessibility of our data. This role collaborates with key business leaders and subject matter experts to identify opportunities for the enterprise data to support our strategic goals, guide strategic direction and set technical strategy for implementing these opportunities via an enterprise data roadmap. The Enterprise Data Architect works to secure our enterprise data assets and plays a key role in data governance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Support BI’s enterprise data environments including managing the deployment of changes and any failures resulting from our deployments. Respond to system alerts and other notifications to ensure the reliability and integrity of our enterprise data systems.

  • Design and develop enterprise data system solutions working with business analysts, subject matter experts, and other IT professionals.

  • Provide architectural design and guidance for all Data consumed and stored by the company. Includes the following:

  • Create a Vision / Blueprint / Roadmap for improving and expanding the use of data across the company; Responsible to the overall architectural and engineering design of our data ecosystem, Build and articulate a tech blueprint and delivery roadmap, Guides the company’s data-related efforts, champions the use of the data, and provides a vision for the development of a robust and scalable data tier.

  • Advocate for the company’s data; overseeing its enhancement, integration, quality, security, and availability. Improve data quality, standards, and best practices.

  • Optimize the strategic business value of the company’s data; Determine the architectural strategy for data and analytics initiatives. Serves as strategist and advisor to business leaders with respect to the company’s data. Provides insight on risks, opportunities, features, costs, and benefits to business priorities.

  • Champion the usage of data across the organization; Provide strategic guidance, mentorship expertise. Make data-architecture recommendations. Establish methodology and best practices for Data Management.

  • Secure our enterprise data and systems. Focus on availability, integrity, and confidentiality (CIA triad). Ensure alignment of enterprise data strategy and corporate security policies. Work to enhance security policies to improve security posture and reduce security risks. Research, recommend, and implement security controls that are appropriate for MSE and BI’s security maturity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must display Core Values

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including technical writing skills

  • Ability to articulate technical solutions to various technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements

  • Proven experience in eliciting requirements and testing

  • Excellent skills and knowledge in engineering and documenting process workflows

  • Proven experience with improving operational efficiency, service delivery and information management across IT organization

  • Strong understanding of technologies related to database systems and software, complex systems, performance and capacity planning, and business objectives.

Experience and Education

  • Experience architecting enterprise database solutions.

  • End to End experience with ETL solutions.

  • Experience with SQL hierarchies, insurance or XML is a plus.

  • 5 or more years of professional experience and a strong foundation in database design, architecture.

  • Thorough understanding of modern data warehouse architecture.

  • Familiarity with MDM, BI, and data warehouse design and implementation techniques.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Math, Engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
