ImpactLife is the exclusive provider of blood products and services to our partner hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. The blood center is based in Davenport, Iowa, where ImpactLife's testing, processing, and primary distribution center of blood components is located. ImpactLife is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

As we enter our 50thyear of service, ImpactLife is seeking a talented and passionate individual to join our executive leadership team as the Chief Operating Officer (COO).

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the COO will oversee and lead the operational aspects of the organization to include all marketing and public relations activities as well as blood recruitment, collection, patient services, manufacturing, and distribution activities. Additional responsibilities include departmental budgeting and development of control systems to ensure that organization objectives are met.

Qualifications include bachelor’s degree with preference given to candidates with a graduate degree and blood center and/or hospital executive leadership experience.

This position can be located anywhere within the ImpactLife service territory extending into 4 states: Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin.

Chief Operating Officer Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and evaluates all activities associated with the operations of marketing/public relations, recruitment and retention of blood donors and sponsor groups, the collection of blood donors as well as manufacturing and distribution of blood products.

  • Primary leader in charge of departmental budget development and maintenance, implementation of tactical plans to support the organization’s strategic plan, and development of control systems to ensure organizational objectives are met.

  • Maintains a sound plan of corporate operations structure, establishing policies to ensure effective coordination and communication.

  • Develops subordinate managers’ skills and abilities and maintains an effective succession plan.

  • Directs the preparation of short term and long-range plans and budgets based on broad corporate goals and growth objectives.

  • Evaluates the results of overall operations, departmental finances, and regulatory performance regularly and systematically, and reports these results to the CEO.

  • Ensures that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.

  • Ensures that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Demonstrates by example the integrity, partnership, leadership, and commitment expected from everyone associated with the Blood Center.

    Experience and Educational Qualifications:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of senior level management experience in health care industry, blood banking or transfusion service.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulations, laws and statutes governing the blood banking and/or the health care industry.

  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communications, effectively communicating to individuals and groups from all segments of the public, and with all employees of the organization.

  • Demonstrated successful leadership skills in the areas of financial management, long range planning, and human resources utilization.

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred,

  • Equivalent combination of demonstrated work experience and education may be considered.
