Hours:Primary 1000-1830, flex for dept coverage from 0600-2030, 8 hour shifts
The Operating Room Technician works with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, registered nurse and certified surgical technologists as a member of the operating room team in planning for and providing supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for surgical procedures.
Orders inventory using specified ERP system by forecasting the needs of the department. Follows up with any issue regarding inventory such as backorders, recalls, etc. Pulls all necessary OR trays, supplies and equipment required for surgical cases as directed on the case preference card. Communicates any discrepancies to the appropriate staff and works out a plan to move forward with the affected personnel. Assists team members with preference card maintenance. Stocks, organizes, cleans, and maintains unit work areas, supplies, and equipment. Responsible for the restocking of operating rooms, returning unused supplies and instruments to their proper storage area, and rotates stock to insure timely use of supplies. Assists with vendor activities. Acts as a liaison between the Operating Room department and Sterile Processing to coordinate the rapid turnaround of surgical trays and instruments as dictated by the surgery schedule. Utilizes the autoclaves in the OR for “just in time” sterilization according to current guidelines and keeps documentation of sterilization cycles according to current guidelines. Provide assistance to any team members intraoperatively that will enable them to function more efficiently and enhance patient care. Participates in the orientation of new associates to the inner hall and case cart pulling duties. Delivers sterile instruments and supplies to the operating room while possessing a strong surgical conscience. Assist in room turnover by cleaning furniture and equipment according to established End of Case Cleaning guidelines. Follows department dress code policy and wears appropriate personal protective equipment. Knowledgeable about Standard and Isolation Precautions. Demonstrates proper use of patient transfer devices. Implements measures to promote a safe environment for the patient/family.
High school diploma or GED.
Completion of a surgical technology program preferred.
1 year clinical experience.
Experience with inventory management preferred.
Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
Must be detail-oriented and able to prioritize tasks.
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities.
May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.
Flexibility in accepting assignments and works well as a team member and individual.
Ability to perform under time constraints.
Knowledge of basic computer skills.
A working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook preferred.
