Waverly Health Center Floor Care Technician - FULL-TIME 2nd Shift ($3/hour differential) in Waverly, Iowa

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Provide and maintain a clean and sanitary environment, by ensuring that all floor surfaces are maintained properly. Essential requirements to work as a floor care technician include ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision. Also, floor care technicians need to be well-versed in performing proper techniques of floor care and preparations of areas to be cleaned. Performs a variety of environmental services duties to maintain the hospital in a neat, orderly, safe, and sanitary condition. Such duties may include cleaning and servicing areas throughout the building, and assisting in reporting any maintenance needs throughout facility to Plant Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assess the condition of floors that need to be cared for and devise methods to clean, buff or refinish them.

  • Perform buffing and refinishing activities to ensure that designated floors are kept shiny and clean.

  • Dust, mop, burnish and refinish floors according to floor maintenance procedures.

  • Sweep, mop and vacuum surfaces in hallways, stairways and entrances to ensure that they are kept in a constant state of cleanliness and maintenance.

  • Perform advanced cleaning procedures on carpeted areas and assist in cleaning and sanitizing installed carpets.

  • Monitors the carpet spot sheet on a daily bases to insure we addressing issues in a timely manner and documenting the date it was completed.

  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on all floor care equipment and tools prior to using them.

  • Operate floor care equipment such as automatic scrubbers, floor machines and dry vacuums.

  • Fill out work orders for repair and maintenance and ensure that supervisors are duly informed.

  • Handle inventory duties by ordering supplies and maintaining adequate supplies of cleaners and equipment through supervisors. Selects cleaning materials and supplies according to procedure. Follows correct procedures for dilution of chemicals and sequence and frequency of cleaning tasks. Follows all infection control policies and procedures, including handwashing techniques, standard precautions, and isolation precautions. Returns unused supplies to proper place, cleans carts and equipment, and ensures all items are replaced in a timely and orderly manner.

  • Trained in the Environmental Technician role to help assist when there are staffing issues.

  • Cleans assigned areas by washing walls, doors, doorframes, ceilings, vents, patient televisions, windows, beds, furnishings, and fixtures. Provides assistance in preparing, cleaning and making beds in patient rooms. Supplies all restrooms with paper towels, toilet paper and liquid soap as needed. Keeps building entrances clean and uncluttered. Performs emergency clean-ups as needed, including blood/bodily fluids, chemicals, etc.

  • Collects waste from all areas of the facility, empties trash and garbage containers, retrieves recyclable paper goods, and removes infectious/hazardous waste for disposal. Records information for tracking of hazardous waste on log sheets.

  • Picks up soiled linens from assigned areas, weighs and records linen. Loads and unloads linens in appropriate washers and dryers and operates machines to wash and dry properly. Stocking supplies in store room along with cleaning the store room and maintaining supplies on cleaning carts and cleaning and disinfecting carts at the end of each shift.

  • Keep entrances clean from snow and debris as needed to assist Plant Services during inclement weather.

  • Attend department meetings, completes all assigned trainings on time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education, Experience, and Training

  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must possess valid Iowa driver’s license where applicable.

  • Must have an acceptable driving record.

  • Previous experience in the areas of Floor care/ Environmental Services is preferred.

  • Must be willing to obtain HazMat certification at either the Awareness or Operations Level.

  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee

timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.

  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

  • Physical Requirements

  • Sitting – Not a requirement.
