Prince Telecom is currently hiring qualified R&M Technicians to join our team to help connect America. As a full service telecommunications company, we specialize in building, maintaining, and managing some of the largest upgrades, rebuilds, and new builds, as well as a wide range of services including aerial and underground construction, structured wiring, fiber splicing, cable mining, and engineering for the fiber to the home market. R&M Technicians are responsible for the terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing of all fiber optic cables within the systems fiber optic networks and their related equipment. What you’ll do…
Install, repair, maintain, test proof or adjust, as needed, all fiber optic cables and related equipment
Climb utility poles and ladders
Lift and carry equipment that weighs at least 75 lbs
Use a variety of hand tools
Work in all types of inclement weather
Enter underground facilities and be able to use a shovel to uncover underground closures
Coordinate fiber activities with other departments and staff
Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters
Terminate, splice, bond/ground, and test fiber optic equipment to customer standards
Provide accurate equipment location, splicing, and terminating records for the fiber database
Assist the Construction and Engineering departments
Build bays, racking, jumper ducts and other network elements
Monitor, communicate, and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber and/or fiber related equipment from Master Control to and through each HUB to the NODE.
Provision and install media converters
Serve as a technical resource for staff on all fiber related areas and technical procedures
Be available for any on call emergency coverage for fiber restoration year round
Who we are looking for…
High school diploma or GED required or a combination of equivalent education and experience
Two (2) years experience with fiber optic cable technology, formal fiber optic training strongly desired.You have one (1) year of fiber optic cable splicing experience or completion of an equivalent training program
Authorized to work in the United States for this company
Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as needed with or without assistance
Able to meet the safety requirement of the safety harnesses that are utilized for bucket trucks and climbing poles
Possess the ability to work at ground level, crouch squat and sit. Install Network Interface units outdoors on customer premises
Valid standard Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience
You have an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company
Have a good understanding of the technologies and standards as they apply to the installation of fiber optic networks
Have a working knowledge of design and layout for fiber terminations
Possess a good understanding of fiber documentation and have the ability to assist in laying out new fiber circuits
Be able to think analytically
Excellent customer presentation and service skills.
Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment.
Ability to work well under pressure and deadline environments.
Ability to translate highly technical information to end user customers and staff.
Ability to communicate with other staff.
Ability to handle on-call responsibilities
Act as a customer contact. Interface with customers and local supervisors to clarify project status
Learn new equipment software and interfaces to help expand business opportunities
Work well within a team
Good written and oral communication skills
Adaptable to changing environments
Complete other duties as assigned.
Be able to work weekends and overnights
Be able to differentiate color codes
Be able to read and understand manufacturer’s manuals for operating and repairing of electronic equipment and components
Proficient in the operation of all related fiber tools and equipment.
