Job Description:

Job Title: Financial Accountant

Department: Accounting

FLSA: Exempt

General Function:

The Financial Accountant is responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts, calculating and balancing accruals, maintaining a detailed and accurate trial balance, financial statement preparation, and assisting in the month end close process. This position requires a basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, attention to detail, and accuracy. A qualified candidate also has advanced Excel knowledge, the ability to work in a team or independently on projects, effective time management of multiple deadlines, strong multi-tasking skills, a strong work ethic, commitment to the company’s core fundamentals, and the ability to be flexible.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Director, Financial Reporting

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completes general ledger balancing and financial statement preparation including preparing and reconciling profit and loss and balance sheet reports.

  • Completes monthly accounting close, including preparation of journal entries, analytical reports, and account reconciliations.

  • Collects and analyzes data which is used for the preparation of accruals and creating reports for management.

  • Performs various project analysis and other ad-hoc research and analysis as assigned.

  • Responds to financial inquiries by gather, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.

  • Assists in the annual year-end by supporting financial managers when and where needed.

  • Makes recommendations to improve accounting and control procedures.

  • Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.

  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting or related field.

  • Experience with ERP systems, specifically SAP, and financial reporting tools is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.

  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Working Conditions:

  • The duties of this position are performed in a general office setting along with flexible work arrangements outside of the office.

  • Working attire on a normal day in the office is “dress for your day” with jeans being welcomed.

  • Reports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Calculator, telephone, copier, printer, and PC with Microsoft Office programs.

Contacts:

Has occasional contact with store personnel, supplies/vendors, customers, and various state agencies.

Confidentiality:

Has access to confidential information including financial and stockholder information.
