Finance brings together enterprise functions that drive Wells Fargo's financial management, including accounting and control, financial planning and analysis, line of business finance, asset-liability management, treasury, tax management, and the company's investment portfolios. They also inform shareholders, regulators, taxing authorities, employees, and leaders of the company's financial performance through earnings releases, investor meetings and conferences, and meetings with regulators and credit rating agencies, following appropriate reporting guidelines.
The Controller’s Division of Corporate Finance is seeking a motivated Financial Accounting Senior Consultant with in-depth knowledge of financial institution accounting and reporting. The successful candidate will need to work well in a team and individually and have close attention to detail.
This senior consultant will be responsible for a variety of work efforts supporting the Consumer Credit Card, Retail Services, Co-Brand, and Small Business Lending Credit Card businesses. This position will be required to understand and help manage the rules and mapping logic within the Accounting Engine and projects for the businesses that have an accounting impact. This role will be responsible for the accurate and complete financial statements and will work closely with the reporting teams to ensure understanding of the GL. In addition, this employee will have some engagement and responsibility for COSO controls, GL reconciliations, reviewing new contracts for accounting impacts and the Fiserv settlement processes.
This senior consultant will support completion of complex accounting tasks; creating and implementing controls to ensure accuracy of accounting processes; enforcing adherence to internal and external accounting principles and policies; managing response and resolution to audit inquiries; and managing complex accounting projects in support of business goals.
Provide line of business accounting support
Provide month end financial reporting analysis for variances and other metrics
Develop and maintain strong business relationships with leadership across Wells Fargo and other stakeholders, such as the Line of Business, Finance, and others within Controllers
Maintain a robust control environment, including reconciliations, and remediate issues with urgency
Be a key change agent in building and adopting best practices
Maintain knowledge of Wells Fargo accounting and regulatory reporting policies
Understand and ensure compliance and risk management policies
Collaborate, engage, and support projects that span across the Card businesses
Lead complex accounting research and projects to area of responsibility
Support the month end, quarter end, and annual close process
Manage ad hoc projects with a sense of urgency

- 6+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting demonstrated through work or military experience; or a BS/BA or higher in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, or Business and 4+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: finance, accounting, analytics, financial reporting, accounting reporting or risk reporting
A BS/BA degree or higher in one or a combination of the following: Finance, Accounting, Analytics, or Reporting
Ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
2+ years of SEC/Regulatory quarterly reporting experience
Strong accounting skills
Ability to identify and present processes/operational enhancements
Ability to articulate issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of staff and management
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback/direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to influence, partner, and negotiate with senior business leaders to gain commitment to accomplish business goals
Other Desired Qualifications
Knowledge and understanding of credit card products and accounting
A solid understanding of the accounting, reporting, and internal control issues facing large, diversified US financial services institutions
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
