The scrum master is responsible for effectively coaching and leading Agile teams in delivery of high-quality solutions while emphasizing collaboration, team self-management and ensuring flexibility to adapt to the Agile principles to achieve the business goals of Grinnell Mutual. This practitioner drives continuous improvement on challenging teams, manage complex cross-team dependencies, and is an active participant in advancing the skill sets of peers.
This position can be performed in our Grinnell; or in a remote, home office based in one of the following states: Arizona, Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin. Please note that candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without Grinnell Mutual sponsorship.
Leads and fosters communication and collaboration amongst the team and stakeholders and effectively coaches team to be self-organizing and cross functional.
Leads teams to self-organization, transformation and change through challenging the status quo and motivating others to deliver on commitments and think creatively.
Facilitates sprint ceremonies ensuring agile principles are embraced and adhered to. Inspects and adapts after each sprint to support continuous team improvement.
Communicates and updates teams and stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment with project priorities.
Collaborates with the Product Owner and the Team to successfully complete committed user stories and ensures quality deliverables of incremental working software that is of the highest priority.
Utilizes various forms of communication to identify, track and remove impediments while minimizing various organizational distractions and interferences.
Creates and maintains metrics and artifacts such as sprint health, velocity, sprint burn ups in order to support release planning and strategic long-term planning.
Assesses Agile maturity of the team and coaches the team to higher levels of maturity to achieve goals and drive teams to be high performing
Coach and mentor other scrum masters to promote knowledge share across teams and the organization.
As necessary, act in a project management capacity to develop schedules, identify/manage risk, and execute communications to suit stakeholder needs.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in related field and/or leadership experience with hands on experience leading Agile teams required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CSM, PMI, or other related certification, preferred.
Experience with software management tools such as JIRA or Rally, preferred.
Demonstrated expertise of Agile development, Agile methodologies (i.e. SCRUM, KanBan) and related iterative software development best practices, required.
Experience with implementation and maturation of an Agile framework tailored to business needs, required.
Demonstrated oral, written, and presentation skills to both technical and non-technical personnel. Exhibits self-assurance and a creative aptitude.
Actively listens to gain information, increase understanding and build relationships.
Ability to maintain transparency with information and knowledge to ensure work is completed efficiently.
Must be able to facilitate discussion that represents all perspectives of a situation and bring a group to consensus that moves the group forward in a united direction. Using skills to negotiate and mitigate conflict in a professional manner.
Thorough understanding of technology and business with ability to apply knowledge into work product.
Exhibits ability to analyze technical information, evaluate products, services and vendors, and make recommendations based on goals of the project or organization.
Working knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance preferred. Willingness to develop a working knowledge of industry and Grinnell Mutual specific business practices. Must be able to appropriately apply learned knowledge as it relates to responsibilities of the position.

Ability to represent Grinnell Mutual at selected professional conference approximate 1-2 times per year. May include overnight stays and travel.

The position is physically located in a remote home office location or one of Grinnell Mutual's campuses with a work environment of a typical office setting; noise level is relatively quiet and occasional stress is encountered as deadlines approach. The position requires an individual to sit for long periods of time. Requires visual acuity and repetitive movement.
