Wells Fargo Senior Financial Accountant in West Des Moines, Iowa

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join the real estate secured held for investment (HFI) portfolio accounting team within the Controller's division. The accountant will lead change initiatives related to home lending accounting system of record. The Controller's Group is responsible for all accounting and financial reporting functions for the home lending portfolio, including SEC and Regulatory Reporting, as well as all related internal control activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting to investors, creditors, management, and regulators.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as lead for financial accounting related matters for accounting and other control functions

  • Prepare and review quarterly SEC and Regulatory reporting for mortgage related accounts

  • Partner with management and team in leading the implementation of complex projects and initiatives

  • Perform advanced monitoring and review of accounting results and legal entity reporting

  • Complete ad hoc research, detailed trending analysis, interpreting and reporting on loan balances and associated general ledger accounts

  • Examine reporting and accounting processes for possible re-engineering to enhance efficiencies

  • Assist as a lead in implementing required controls/compliance documentation

  • Review and approve system of record data posted to the general ledger

Position must sit in the following locations: Charlotte, NC; Des Moines, IA. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Required Qualifications, US:

  • 4+ years of Finance, Accounting, Analytics, Financial Reporting, Accounting Reporting or Risk Reporting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in one or a combination of the following: Accounting, Finance, Analytics, or Reporting

  • Ability to manage effectively in a matrixed organization

  • Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Financial Analyst designation

  • 2+ years public accounting experience

  • Mortgage and home lending product knowledge

  • Proven project management experience managing multiple projects concurrently

  • Exceptional analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques

  • Ability to execute in a deadline-driven environment while balancing multiple priorities

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and across all organizational levels, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and SmartView knowledge
